theintimateanimal In one of our national studies of singles, we found that roughly one in five participants reported sending a sext (i.e., a sexually explicit image sent via text message), and 28 percent had received them. And although nearly three-quarters of participants reported worry that whoever they’d graced with a sext might forward it, around 23 percent had shared sexts they received with others, on average with more than three friends.In a second, more recent study on sexting led by my Kinsey Institute colleague Alexa Marcotte, we also found that sexual images, and specifically the notorious “dick pic,” may now play an even more frequent appearance in early courtship and pre-dating behaviors.
